Top London Based Influencer You Should Be Following in 2020: Danielle Vanier

Danielle Vanier is an incredible fashion blogger who has seen exponential growth on her social media channels since she started her personal blog back in 2016. Danielle was inspired to make change within the fashion industry due to her first-hand recognition of the lack of inclusive sizing available to women on the high street. She started writing about how women could look and feel amazing despite the limited amount of plus size options provided by popular, high street brands. Danielle has also been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, a chronic pain disorder which includes various debilitating symptoms, such as extreme fatigue and problems with memory and concentration. Therefore, Danielle makes a point of talking about how fashion needs to be comfortable for its’ wearers, as well as being stylish. One of her featured pieces on her blog discusses the side-effects of Fibromyalgia, and how best to dress in order to combat them.

Danielle has managed to amass a large, loyal following on both her blog site and on Instagram, where she currently has 119K followers. She has been recognised by a variety of ground-breaking fashion publications including; Vogue, Grazia, Elle, and Cosmopolitan. Most significantly, Instyle and Buzzfeed named her ‘Best Curve Influencer’ in 2016. In 2019 Danielle became an integral part of Matalan’s team by being selected as the face of their curve range. However, her most inspiring work to date is her role in designing diverse and inclusive fashion pieces for the nationally renowned brand, Marks & Spencer’s.

‘Times are changing, and plus-sized women don’t just want to wear tents over leggings; we want to wear cool stuff!’ – Danielle Vanier for M&S.

Danielle was pivotal in creating a new range of partywear for M&S. She was directly involved in the extensive consultation between the brand and its’ buyers, providing pointers to them and their designers throughout the process of creating a new curve collection. Danielle sought to create pieces that would excite the younger customer, and further embolden them to feel confident in their own skin. The clothes in Danielle’s collection focus on individuality, style and tailoring. They are not designs that have simply been made bigger in order to expand the pre-existing size-range. Her stand-out pieces are the two ‘Little Black Dresses’ that have a stunning contemporary, edgy flair. Danielle has definitely achieved her goal of making iconic fashion staples, such as the ‘LBD,’ more accessible for plus-sized women. Her collection is currently available in sizes 16 to 32 in-store and online nationwide.

Danielle’s Instagram page is certainly a source of great fashion inspiration as she showcases a variety eye-catching outfits and editorial shots on there. Her feed is always an amazing place to find beauty and fashion tips and suggestions, particularly for plus-sized women. More importantly, Danielle is an amazing influencer to follow because she inspires confidence within the individual, whatever size or shape they may be. Her touching and honest captions make it easy to relate to her and are informative about important, topical issues such as disability in fashion and the Black Lives Matter movement. Danielle does not shy away from the personal as she actively chooses to share intimate moments from her life, whether that be romantic snapshots from her relationship with her girlfriend, or the reality of her illness. Her openness is a refreshing change and is definitely much needed on social platforms, such as Instagram, where the realness behind people can be lost. For young women in particular, Danielle is an influencer that inspires not only body positivity, but also acceptance and confidence in all facets of self, from sexuality to disability.
