Influencer Sessions: Get to Know Alison Eager

We caught up with Instagram’s favourite ballerina, Alison (@alisoneager). Accumulating 85.2K followers on Instagram alone, Alison shares snippets of the ‘dancer life’ and her favourite routines; with the ultimate goal being to expand the Alison Eager Dance brand and help other aspiring dancers who are looking for a way into the industry.

Check out the interview below!

1. Tell us about your background and how you started to build your following.

I have always loved being my own boss and a freelance performer. A big help to my career has come from using social media as a digital portfolio as a dancer. When I started my online dance coaching business I began to take my social media to the next level, as it helped me to build my brand and expand my reach. As I move more and more into content creation I have really discovered my passion for creating a genuine connection to my audience.

2. Had you always set out to make a career out of dancing or was it just a hobby that led you to where you are now?

I definitely did not start out to make dancing my career. I started Ballet as a hobby at the tender age of four and never really stopped since then! It has become a part of my identity and grew into my passion over time. Eventually when it came to choosing a career the choice was undeniable – dance was the only thing I could see myself pursuing!

3. Which platforms do you predominantly use? Which is your favourite?

I predominantly use Instagram and TikTok. I would say my favourite fluctuates by the day depending on my mood. I love the unfiltered realness of TikTok, however the interaction and community I find on Instagram has always blown me away.

4. What type of content do you create, and which type works best for your audience?

I love to create fun, energetic and uplifting dance content. Showing that dance can be fun and carefree for everybody, any age, gender, size and ability level! I also love to create comedic and light hearted content also. I find my audience likes this side of my personality and I love to make my followers have a laugh when coming across my content.

I am also loving revealing more and more of my personality and hobbies, things like my makeup routine, dance industry secrets, get ready with me content, travel and fitness/health content. I find this content works great for my audience as I find they enjoy getting to know the person behind the dance videos!

5. How would you define “influencer marketing”?

Influencer marketing to me is where a big brand partners with a social media influencer to endorse and promote their product.

6. Have you worked with brands before? How do you decide which brands to work with?

I have worked with several brands over the past few years. To me it is vital that the influencer genuinely stands behind the product and the promotion. I personally feel influencers have a responsibility to be authentic with their followers and to prioritise only working with brands that align with their morals and lifestyle.

7. How do you think influencer marketing will change over the next 12 months?

I feel influencer marketing will indeed continue to change as society and social media itself constantly change day by day. I feel this change will be for brands to look to become genuinely more sustainable and environmentally conscious; therefore looking to work with people for whom this ethos is vitally important.

I feel fast fashion and promotion of over consumption will be seen less and less with time and a more reuse and repurpose approach will be taken. I also feel we will see more of a shift towards platforms like TikTok and the continuation of video content being prioritised by brands.

8. How has influencer marketing changed since you began working within social media?

I definitely see a difference in influencer marketing from when I began. I see it in video content being more prioritised on platforms. I also have seen the shift towards Tiktok and Reels more and more as platforms realise this is the more consumable form of social media.

9. Do you use any software to help create and edit your content?

I use TikTok and Reels to edit my content, and occasionally Da Vinci Resolve.

10. How do you balance your online and offline lives?

I have had to create boundaries to balance my online and offline lives. I have times of the day I ‘switch off’ from my phone and laptop as well as a usage timer of my social media apps to let me know when I have reached my quota of time on each app.

11. Which influencers inspire you?

I am inspired by influencers such as @jameelajamil for her activism and constant voice to those who need it most. And also @cost_n_mayor for their hilarious, high quality content that never fails to put a smile on my face.

12. Where would you like to take your career as an influencer?

I want to continue to grow my channels, continuing to strengthen my authentic and genuine relationship with my followers. I hope to continue to grow my Youtube channel also, vlogging my life, travels and showcasing my lust for life and my energetic personality more and more! I want to continue to grow my brand of Alison Eager Dance, I wish to work with brands that align with what I love in areas such as health and fitness, fashion and beauty, animal cruelty, free living, sustainability, travel and mental health.

I am also in the process of building my own businesses within the dance and fashion world. I am creating my own line of sustainably made, slow fashion ballet skirts that showcase each dancer’s personality and self expression. I hope to bring my followers along for this journey of creation and ensure they are a part of the process. I hope to expand my reach to help dance become a choice for all who wish to train.

I would love to start a charity or fund for those unable to afford their dream of training in dance. I also see myself going more and more into acting for TV and film as well as hoping to create my own podcast one day soon where I can discuss the performance industry and open up the sides of the industry that aren’t spoken about enough.
