The Met Gala 2025 has officially been and gone, leaving behind it a string of explosive outfits, wild styling choices, and star-studded moments we’ll be ruminating on for years.
This year’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, brought with it hundreds of stunning outfits, all nodding to the aesthetic and political constructs of Black Dandyism.

THE MET GALA OUTFITS WE CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF
Dapper Dan
@metmuseum Dapper Dan IS the moment 🔥 Serving on the host committee of this year’s MetGala, #DapperDan embodies the spirit of the 2025 Costume Institute exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”
When the Met Gala announced its co-chairs for 2025, it’s safe to say we were more than a little shocked at the absence of Dapper Dan from the list.
Co-chair or not, Dapper Dan completely stole the spotlight this year.
Growing up in Harlem in the 1940s, Dan knew from an early age the power of clothing to influence how people see you. Powered by this sentiment, the American fashion designer and haberdasher went on to use his Harlem-based fashion boutique to introduce high fashion to the hip hop scene, dressing the likes of Salt-N-Peppa, LL Cool J, and Jay-Z.
A true visionary and powerful voice in Black fashion and style, Dapper Dan’s appearance at the Met Gala was a powerful one indeed. Donned in a white and black Zoot Suit emblazoned with a Sankofa—a Ghanaian symbol meaning the importance of looking to the past to build a stronger future—Dan’s Met Gala outfit reminded us all just why this year’s theme was so needed.
Teyana Taylor

Armed with an ensemble put together by icons Ruth E. Carter and Marc Jacobs, Teyana Taylor’s incredible look has made its way to the top of many Met Gala outfits lists.
Draped in layers of dark burgundy, Taylor’s already deeply impressive three-piece suit—complete with trousers, waistcoat, shirt, and overcoat—was taken to the next level by the dozens of carefully selected accessories adorning it. Featuring a feathered fedora, jumbo rosettes, leather gloves, stacked wallet chains, a red cane, custom Kiki boots, and a matching durag, Taylor was truly decked out to the nine’s.
Standing out amongst the dozens of incredible Met Gala outfits is no easy feat, but Taylor did it with ease. The final look was not only a stunning ode to the genius fashion designers behind it, but a true understanding of Black dandyism itself, where cutting-edge tailoring meets radical self-expression.
All we can say is, well done.
André 3000
@metmuseum @André 3000 Official has been carrying music for a long time 🎹 #MetGala
You may know him from OutKast, but André 3000 has long been a practitioner of Black dandyism.
Not one to strut down the red carpet, the musician/fashion designer has famously gone to excessive lengths to avoid the Met Gala fanfare, even sneaking through the kitchens in 2008 to dodge the paparazzi.
This year, however, he took a different approach. Wearing a navy workwear-inspired jumpsuit from the rapper’s Burberry x Benjamin Bixby 2008 collaboration (custom-made by Burberry designer Daniel Lee, and styled by Law Roach), André 3000 took centre stage on the carpet—which was surprisingly simple to do, given the baby grand piano strapped to his back.
The baby grand was, in part, a note to the surprise album André 3000 released on his way to the Met Gala itself. Titled 7 Piano Sketches, the album features a series of solo piano pieces that have been sitting on the singer’s hard drive for over a decade. Personal and improvisational, 7 Piano Sketches is the kind of raw self-expression that Black dandysim celebrates.
Yet, many have theorised that the piano was more than just a piano. By carrying the heavy instrument on his back, André 3000 cut a striking figure of a Black man holding up music. Many believe this was clearly meant to symbolise the way in which Black culture holds up the music industry, with no recognition nor thanks for doing so.
Ultimately, the combination of the jumpsuit and baby grand accessory was gorgeously on theme, making André 3000’s one of the best Met Gala outfits of the evening.
Lauryn Hill
@metmuseum Can’t take our eyes off #MsLaurynHill
It may surprise you that 2025 was Lauryn Hill’s Met Gala debut.
The notoriously reclusive Grammy-award winner stepped out onto the Met Gala to raucous applause on Monday, stunning onlookers in one of the grandest Met Gala outfits.
With its bold, sculptural tailoring, Hill’s baby yellow double-breasted suit will go down in history. Surrounded by a cloud of matching yellow crepe that flowed down into a train, the final look was as powerful as it was ethereal. Yet, what truly took this outfit to the next level were its roots.
The look paid homage to Ghanaian royalty, powered in no small part by the hands that made it. Both Hill’s stylist and jeweller (Jude Dontoh and Emfa Cole, respectively) are of Ghanaian descent, lending the look a rich historical and political significance. The design’s embroidery, gold jewellery, and regal sash all reflected themes of strength, royalty, and Black spirituality. The final touch? The umbrella a Met Gala employee held above Hill, paying homage to the Ghanaian tradition where royalty and chiefs alike are shaded by a Benkyinie umbrella.
Woven in layers of symbolism and historical significance, Hill made sure her Met Gala debut went down as one of the best Met Gala outfits in the history of the event.
Lewis Hamilton

As a co-chair of the Met Gala 2025, Lewis Hamilton knew all eyes were on him to deliver at this year’s event—and deliver he did.
Styled by Grace Wales Bonner, Hamilton hit the carpet in a gorgeous, ivory suit with a cropped jacket, tuxedo trousers, coattails, bow tie, and a waistband sash. The look was tipped off with a Stephen Jones Millinery beret.
When asked about the inspiration for the look, Bonner explained they drew from a range of sources, including Black spiritual dressing, Barkley L. Hendricks paintings, and star of the Harlem Renaissance, Cab Calloway. As per Bonner, “there are stories told through jewel adornments and special trims, with symbolism in baobab flower motifs and natural materials like cowrie shells and mother-of-pearl buttons”.
Beautiful and symbolic to its core, it is no wonder Hamilton’s look is being hailed as one of the best Met Gala outfits of the year.
Diana Ross
@metmuseum Get on the Diana Ross train! @dianaross (But seriously, don’t step on her train 😉)
Nothing says “I’m coming out” like an 18-foot, bedazzled train.
After not attending the Met Gala for 22 years, it is safe to say Diana Ross has made up for lost time with her 2025 look. The silver, glittering gown fit the iconic singer like a second-skin, allowing her long train to take centre stage. The white train featured a silver, feathered trim, and was adorned with names of Ross’s children and grandchildren.
The look was purely Ross—truly, no other star could have pulled it off. The inclusion of her family’s names, of her future and bloodline, lent the look a symbolic and personal edge that perfectly matched the theme of the night. It was as if Ross was declaring, “I am here, we are here, and we always will be”.
Without a doubt, Ross achieved one of the most stunning Met Gala outfits of the evening.
