The number of Snapchat users has been increasing year-on-year since 2018, with users engaging more with the platform now than ever. The app is currently the 13th most popular social media and the 6th most popular messaging app worldwide.

North America is the app’s largest user base, with 32.42% (92 million users) of Snapchat daily active users based in North America. 26.62% (78 million users) are based in Europe and 40.96% (120 million users) are based in Africa, Asia, South America and Australia. The Snapchat audience is younger, with the app reaching over 75% of the Gen Z and Millennial population. 82% of Snapchat users are under the age of 34. In addition, over 60% of the app’s users identify as female.

In 2020 Snapchat introduced a feature for brands to make it easier to connect with users, called Brand Profiles. The most effective Snap ads are between 5-6 seconds long and incorporate audio as a key feature. As the majority of Snapchat’s user base is younger, ads only need to be a few seconds long. 55% of Gen Z have an ad recall watching time of 0 to 2 seconds. Therefore, Snap ads should be short and punchy. 

Furthermore, Snapchat users are 60% more likely to make impulsive purchases. 35% of Snapchat users send snaps about products they are interested in purchasing. Snapchaters use the app to consult friends and family for purchasing advice while shopping and are two times more likely to share a moment about their purchase than non-snapchat users

Although Snapchats user growth has slowed down in North American and European markets, the app’s revenue has been steadily increasing over the past few years.
