Artificial Influencers are Taking Over

Artificial intelligence—yes, you read that right—probably isn’t what you once thought it was, and we bet some of you didn’t think it would exist during your lifetime either.

Though we’re still a few years away from walking among robots, they are already taking over our social media platforms. As a fear once stemming from sci-fi cinema, advances in science, technology and engineering mean that we are now living in that future we once feared (but hopefully this article will convince you that these artificial influencers are nothing to be afraid of).

What in the world (or out of it) is an artificial influencer?

AI influencers are virtual personalities that are created by computer graphics and managed by brands or media agencies. Simply put, they are computerised versions of real-life social media influencers.

Now bear with us here as we take things up a notch by explaining how these AI influencers operate on a day-to-day basis. Though they are not flesh and blood, artificial influencers are able to appear in photos and videos and even interact with people on social media. And here’s the crazy part. All of this is done with zero human intervention! In fact, by letting them interact with users on their own, they learn about human behaviour and language; which, over time, makes them increasingly similar to real human beings.

If you were to mindlessly scroll down your feed, it would be pretty easy to miss these artificial influencers as their insane graphics make them look so realistic. However, here is how to differentiate them from other influencers should you stumble across their profile.

They are perfect

Due to them being brought to life by a computer, many physical features of an artificial influencer tend to be flawless. If they represent a brand, these design choices are often done on purpose. AI beauty influencers will oftentimes have perfect skin and AI fashion influencers will most likely have perfect bodies in order to fit the image of the brand.

Not only are their looks tailored to perfection, but so are their personalities. This means that influencers with authentic characteristics and stories can be created; making them perfect candidates for eventual influencer marketing campaigns. These well-thought-out personalities will also be key for attracting their audiences. Any personality traits given that are too extravagant run the risk of losing followers as they will no longer be deemed as likeable or relatable.

Using Artificial Influencers for Marketing

Successful influencer marketing means keeping up with constantly changing trends—both in the real world and, now, in the metaverse. As things begin to shift into the world of virtual reality, it is important for marketers to understand the workings and power of artificial influencers and their role in influencer marketing strategies.

If you are a brand and you’re still not convinced, here are a few persuasive reasons for artificial influencer implementation, that just might help you crack the code for a successful campaign.

Engagement

If someone shared with you the Instagram profile of an artificially intelligent ROBOT, I’m pretty sure you’d take your time to do some snooping. It’s this curiosity that draws audiences in and, oftentimes, keeps them around as a loyal follower.

AI influencers are machines and so they know exactly how to optimise their engagement rate. The bottom line is that people want to talk to robots, whether that’s in their DMs or in their comment section. Due to the way they are programmed, artificial influencers are able to perfectly tailor a response so that the human on the other end hears exactly what they want to hear; persuading them to join as a loyal follower. In turn, this follower build up creates more organic exposure for your brand should you choose to partner with one of these influencers.

Freedom

As a brand, you will be pleased to know that you do not have to deal with any real personalities; therefore, your creative vision does not have to be compromised. This means that you are free to direct the campaign and make decisions in any way you wish, just as long as it remains aligned with the AI influencer’s pre-programed personality.

Having this control will ultimately ensure as successful an outcome as possible, as you will be entirely in charge.

Technology is in their DNA…literally

Artificial influencers are synonymous with the metaverse, artificial intelligence and software engineering. If you are a brand who believes these values to be at the core of your image, then you are the perfect candidate for partnering with an artificial influencer. Their entire being is made up of advances in technology and, if you are a tech brand, how cool would it be to see technology being promoted and marketed by an even bigger technological entity! If your minds weren’t already muddled after trying to wrap your head around what an AI influencer is, then that visualisation right there probably just did.

Down with the Kids

As millennials and members of Gen Z, we can hold our hands up and admit that there are certain aspects of the internet that we still do not understand. However, for those born during the Alpha generation (2010+), understanding technology and how to use it is second nature. Growing up with these artificial influencers will ensure that they become embedded into life on social media and then as natural of an influencer marketing strategy as paying a human being.

As well as this, where the Alpha generation will interact much more naturally with AI influencers, brands will be able to market themselves to new consumers in the future.

Final Thoughts on Artificial Influencers

From a marketing perspective, these influencers have given us that connection between the real world and the artificially intelligent world. As aspects of real life continue to shift into the Metaverse, it is vital to keep up with the role that AI influencers can play in brand strengthening and relationships with consumers.

Here’s to a future of doing business deals with robots!
