Instagram’s most liked posts of the decade

As we approach the end of 2019, it’s time to look back on this 2019’s most famous Instagram post.

Given that there are now a billion monthly users and 3.5 billion likes per day, breaking the record for the most liked picture on Instagram is a huge challenge.

Long story short: nine months ago, a picture of an egg became Instagram’s latest viral sensation. The photo of a long, simple egg was posted from the account @world_record_egg in January. Two weeks later, it became the most liked photo ever on the platform. Apart from this exception, Instagram is dominated by pictures of celebrities posing with their families or making major life announcements to their millions of fans.

5. Jennifer Aniston and the cast of Friends

In her first Instagram post, Jennifer Aniston brought together her Friends co-stars. Even though it is not the best quality, it proved massively popular and sparked news all over the world.

Jennifer Aniston broke a record for being the fastest person to get 1M followers in 24h. Guiness World Records confirmed that it took only five hours and 16 minutes for her to reach the milestone.

4. Planting trees for likes

This post is a newcomer. Environmentally friendly clothing brand tentree promised to translate likes into forests. The company later said it would be planting 500,000 trees in Indonesia as a result of the Instagram likes.

With the environment being such an important topic, it’s no surprise this has rocketed into a high position.

3. XXXTentacion’s last Instagram post

Shared in May 2018, this was the last post from rapper XXXTentacion before his death one month later. The image with the caption ‘LOVE IS WAR’ is in fact the only picture on his Instagram feed.

2. Kylie Jenner and Stormi

Social media mogul Kylie Jenner has no less than 7 posts in Instagram’s top 20 most liked photos.

The reality TV star previously held the honour of the most liked photo with a picture announcing her daughter’s name, Stormi Webster, back in February 2018. The photo which showed her daughter’s tiny hand holding her thumb picked up over 18 million likes.

Then came the egg. For months Kylie lost her top spot to a simple egg. But for how long?

The egg! A completely ordinary egg cracked Kylie Jenner’s Instagram record with over 50 million likes.

The @world_record_egg account began a campaign to set the world record for the most liked post on Instagram, and it was an invitation people just couldn’t turn down.
