Why Your Marketing Strategy Needs Instagram Collabs

Instagram collabs can play a massive role in growing your followers and business.

Collaborations are a feature Instagram began testing in early 2021 and are quickly becoming one of the most used ways of brand promotion on social media.

Collabs on Instagram open up a chance to partner with brands and influencers, gain clout by association and reach new and engaged communities of potential followers.

What are Collabs on Instagram?

Now you might be wondering, what is this amazing tool for growing my business on social media and increasing my follower count?

Well, Instagram collabs are where two (or more) accounts team up to create a post that is relevant across their combined audiences.

This can be activated either through working with another brand or by partnering with an influencer with whom you are activating an influencer marketing campaign.

By engaging in a collab, you are building awareness with another brand or influencer’s audience and this cross-pollination of followers can prove mutually beneficial to both parties.

How do Collabs work on Instagram?

Instagram collabs allow you to invite a collaborator to a Feed post or Reel, so they can share the content with their followers.

Essentially, you will be able to co-author content and the post will show up on both of your profiles.

Furthermore, all participants in the Instagram collab will have access to the metrics, such as likes or views, which will be shared across the channels and pooled together.

Not only does this give everyone access to the relevant information regarding the post, but generally will result in the size of the metrics being much higher than normal due to the shared audience reach.

And if that doesn’t convince you, here are a few more benefits of Instagram Collabs:

  1. Boost/create a revenue stream
  2. Engage your audience
  3. Grow your network
  4. Attract publicity and build buzz

What are some examples of good Instagram Collabs?

As I’m sure you are now jumping at the thought of building your own Instagram Collab, we might as well show you what a successful one looks like.

Brands that find the most success in their Collabs on Instagram are often ones who pick the best partners, ones who will connect them to relevant audiences who will be interested in the brand.

One great example of this was Gelato Messina’s Collaboration with Bumble to find Australia’s happiest ice cream’.

Single people and ice cream lovers are two very compatible audiences, who are both in the pursuit of happiness.

This campaign generated lots of media attention, audience mentions and UGC from followers.

How to get Instagram Collabs

Well, first of all, you need to find who you want to collab with: are they a brand or an influencer?

We can’t tell you the perfect formula for picking a partner for your Instagram Collab, as that is entirely down to your brand and its goals, but we can give you a few tips and tricks.

Working with other brands is great when you have a limited edition or collaborative product for sale that can appeal to and reach both of your following.

Influencer Collabs on Instagram are perfect for promoting your own products in a way that feels more authentic to audiences who are socially native and savvy to obvious adverts.

Successful collaborations are win-win exchanges of value, so it is of course good to know what your Instagram partner is bringing to the table, but also important to know what your brand offers, so you can properly pitch yourself.

Because you might want to work with them, but who’s to say they want to work with you!

Just kidding, we’re sure you’re amazing, but just make sure you let them know that.

So, once you have found your partner(s) you will want to create the content and then post it on Instagram.

By the way, a little secret, the best time to post on Instagram is between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm on Tuesday-Thursday.

Once the content has gone live, you need to go to the share screen and tap ‘Tag People’ – you should then see an option to ‘Invite Collaborator’. After selecting this option, you can search and choose the account you are looking to collaborate with and invite them to participate.

Once the other collaborator has pressed accept on your Instagram Collab request, the content will appear on both your profiles.

Easy as that!

Hopefully now you feel fully prepared to venture into the world of collabs on Instagram.
