Influencer Sessions
We caught up with beauty and lifestyle content creator, @leonettabeauty, to talk engagement and empowerment on social media. Read on to learn more about how she’s gone on to create her social empire!
Where does your love for creating beauty content come from?
Before I started creating content, I loved watching tutorials on YouTube from other creators. I always enjoyed watching them and wished I could do the same. I worked in an office, but after moving to a new country and getting married, I didn’t like my makeup on my wedding day. That’s when I decided to learn how to do my own makeup. I took a course and fell in love with it, so I started making my own tutorials to practice and share what I learned.

How has the rise in beauty brands joining social media impacted the brand deals you get?
The increase in beauty brands on social media has been very positive. I now have more opportunities to collaborate with brands and try new products. This has allowed me to diversify the content I share with my audience.
Which platforms do you predominantly use? Which do you prefer for posting, and for community building?
Instagram is one of my favorite platforms and where I started creating content. It’s the best for building a community because you’re more connected with your audience through stories. I also love YouTube, especially for making shorts, and I’ve seen good interaction through comments there.
How does community engagement vary on your chosen platforms?
On Instagram, people react a lot through direct messages or Stories. On YouTube, the interaction is more through comments on videos, similar to TikTok.
What is your favorite type of content to create, and which works best for your audience? Is there a juxtaposition?
My favorite content to create is short videos where I share makeup tips in a simple way. I also love making lifestyle videos where I share recipes or decoration ideas. Both types of content work well for my audience, although the makeup tips tend to have slightly more engagement.
In your own words and experience, how would you define “influencer marketing”?
Influencer marketing is a form of advertising where brands collaborate with people who have an online presence and an engaged audience. Influencers create authentic content that resonates with their followers and helps promote products effectively.
Why do you think influencer marketing is so powerful in today’s society?
Influencer marketing is powerful because people trust the recommendations of those they follow and admire. Influencers can present products in an authentic and relatable way, making the recommendations more impactful than traditional advertising.
Do you have experience working with brands? How do you decide which brands you would like to work with?
I have several years of experience working with brands. I choose to collaborate with brands whose products I like and would use personally. It’s important to me that the collaborations are genuine and aligned with my values and my audience’s interests.
How do you foresee the influencer marketing space changing within your niche in the next 12 months?
I think influencer marketing will continue to grow and evolve. We’ll see more focus on authenticity and quality content. Brands will look for long-term collaborations and more genuine relationships with influencers.
Based on your experience, what would you aim to change about the online beauty community?
I would like to see more diversity and inclusion in the beauty community. It would also be great to see more promotion of positivity and empowerment instead of competition.

How do you balance your online and offline lives?
Balancing my online and offline life is key. I make sure to have time for myself and my family, setting clear boundaries between work and personal time. Organization and planning also help me maintain this balance.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
I see myself with a stronger and larger community, creating higher quality content and collaborating with more brands. I also want to expand my presence on different platforms and explore new content formats.
What is a piece of advice you would give to your younger self when starting out in content creation?
I would tell her not to be afraid to be authentic and show her true self. Consistency is key and it’s important to enjoy the process. Don’t compare yourself to others; every journey is unique.
