Happy Zero Waste Week!
This week, we’re encouraged to turn our attention to ways in which we can all help reduce landfill waste for the purpose of saving money, preserving resources, and protecting the environment. Held between September 2nd – September 6th, this global campaign raises awareness about the environmental impact of waste, particularly as the world grapples with the growing crisis of plastic pollution, overflowing landfills, and the carbon footprint of waste.
Participating in Zero Waste Week is an opportunity to reflect on our consumption habits, challenge ourselves to produce less waste, and adopt more sustainable practices. Whether it’s through reducing food waste, choosing reusable items over single-use plastics, or finding creative ways to repurpose materials, every effort counts.
Don’t worry, you won’t be doing this alone. Keep reading to discover how you can participate in Zero Waste Week and discover the top zero waste influencers to help guide you through.
HOW TO JOIN IN
- Save the date. Zero Waste Week takes place the week beginning the first Monday in September, so the dates change each year. Check your calendar for the first Monday in September and that will be the first day of the campaign week!
- Download a resource for hints, tips and ideas.
- Pick a theme – popular ones in the past have been food waste, plastic packaging and repair.
- Set a goal – will you reduce your landfill waste by 10%? Banish food waste for two days? Or go all in and challenge yourselves to a completely waste free week?
- Think about your why – WHY do you want to achieve your goal? This will keep you accountable to yourself and on the bandwagon when things get tough.
- Declare your challenge – tell colleagues, friends and family members. Take to social media, using the hashtag #ZeroWasteWeek
- Invite others – it’s so much more fun to do challenges with others. Set up a Zero Waste challenge at work, your local community, at home or with your customers.
- Have fun – enjoy your week, learn from your mistakes and celebrate your successes.

We’re enjoying the last day of summer holidays, so l thought l’d share a little craft to enjoy – start saving those toilet rolls! I upcycled some toilet rolls to make these cute little ghosts with my daughter and we couldn’t decide whether ghosts needed arms… E decided that they needed arms so that they can hold things! Anyway, would you like to make these? I think they look really cute with the oranges, and a great way to make something this Halloween without all of the extra waste I have this branch in our home that we decorate with fairy lights and add seasonal decorations to, they always look so cute and I highly recommend!
