Start Your Spooky Season With The Top 10 TikTok Halloween Trends

With Halloween slowly creeping up on us, TikTok is overflowing with Halloween trends for your brand to emulate this spooky season.

Yet, with the sheer volume of Halloween based content out there, deciding on which trends to get involved with can be a daunting task.

To help you out, we have gathered the top TikTok Halloween trends  this year. So put on your spooky eyeliner and dive in.

THE TOP TIKTOK HALLOWEEN TRENDS OF 2023

It Girl Halloween Costumes

TikTok has proven time and time again that the stereotypical ‘It Girl’ is no more.

Long gone are the days of ‘It Girl’ exclusivity; nowadays, anyone can join her elusive ranks, whether they are rocking bleached blonde highlights or not.

The ‘It Girl’ is strutting into Halloween as well, as seen by the hashtag #ITGirlHalloweenCostume having 1.1 million views.

Videos proclaiming to showcase ‘It Girl’ costumes emphasise the need to be unique. Playing into specific niches that speak to you is a sure-fire way to give ‘It Girl’ energy this October. Some popular ideas include Joan of Arc and Disney princesses.

Brands hoping to join in on this trend should focus on niche costume ideas and championing brand uniqueness. Make sure to highlight how your products can help build the perfect ‘It Girl’ Halloween costume.

Sheet Ghost Photoshoot

Much like a disgruntled spirit, the sheet ghost photoshoot trend is sticking around.

One of the more popular Halloween trends, this trend features creators dressing up as sheet ghosts and posing for humorous photos, such as playing cards or walking their dog. Some pet owners have decided to join in on the fun, using their less than impressed fur babies as models.

This trend is a fantastic way to showcase your brand’s products and relevancy; encourage your employees to join in on the fun, and take photos working around the office for example. Engaging with trends such as this humanises your brand, as it adds a layer of humour and unseriousness to your brand persona.

Inspiration Carousels

Across all top TikTok Halloween trends, the most popular way to showcase Halloween content this year is through Carousels.

Most commonly, Carousels are utilised for Halloween costume inspiration. For this trend, users suggest a costume and then create a slideshow featuring the different articles needed to build the outfit. Some videos feature the Carousel done in a collage style, with the images overlapping each other as the video progresses.

Most of the images are screenshots of the items taken directly from a storefront, providing the perfect opportunity for your brand to get involved with user-generated content.

Brands should jump on this trend by suggesting costumes made up of their own garments, then using the Carousel feature to showcase the products.

Barbie and Oppenheimer

The Barbenheimer craze is far from over, so pull out your costumes and give them a rewear.

This may be the final bout of the Barbenheimer fever, so brands should make sure to go out with a bang.

The trend features a couple dressing up as Barbie and Oppenheimer for Halloween, playing into the opposites attract nature of the two films.

To join in, brands should seek to highlight how users can create Barbenheimer costumes using their products. By grabbing hold of the Barbenheimer trend, brands show that they are in touch with popular culture and tuned into what their audiences are loving.

Boo baskets

One of the most wholesome top TikTok Halloween trends of the 2023 Halloween season, Boo Baskets are a hot ticket item.

This trend focuses on creators building their loved ones a Halloween themed care package. Popular items include fuzzy socks, Halloween sweets, scented candles and general Fall-themed articles.

Brands can join in on the fun by creating Boo Baskets with their own items. These videos typically feature a creator building the basket in an aesthetic setting, so take some time to film yourself, rather than simply posting a Carousel.

Halloween Makeup

Spooky Halloween makeup is consistently a part of the top TikTok Halloween trends each year on TikTok and 2023 is no different. This year, both special effects makeup and more simple, casual looks have been popular.

In terms of SFXmakeup, looks based off of clowns have been gaining traction.

For simple looks, makeup featuring spiderweb eyeliner and using Halloween-themed stencils have been making the rounds.

Moreover, makeup looks based off of Monster High are highly sought after each year. Whilst this trend is yet to properly gain steam in 2023, the videos have started trickling in and will be sure to pick up in volume as we draw closer to Halloween.

Brands hoping to monopolise on this trend should aim to showcase how their products can help create the perfect Halloween makeup look. To take engagement one step further, brands could partner with well known SFX artists or makeup influencers in general and sponsor a video of the creator making a Halloween look. For example, a brand could partner with a creator to film a Monster High look that champions the brand’s new base colour.

Pumpkins Galore

At present, it is difficult to spend more than five minutes on TikTok without coming across a pumpkin in some form or another.

From smashing pumpkins with baseball bats to chatting with the infamous Target jack-o-lantern – sorry, Lewis – Halloween this year is pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins.

The trend picking up the most speed, however, is the pumpkin photoshoot. In these videos, creators take Halloween-themed photos with a pumpkin placed over their head; making them seem like a spooky Halloween monster. Some videos also see the creator simply posing with pumpkins.

One of the more lighthearted Halloween trends out there, to join in on the fun, brands can host their own pumpkin photoshoots. Or, showcase your pumpkin-themed items. Make sure to keep it light and on the silly side to properly play into this trend.

A Gilmore Girls Fall

Whilst not specifically pertaining to Halloween trends, the Gilmore Girls effect is too widespread to ignore.

Gilmore Girls has become closely associated with the Halloween season, due to the cosy, fall aesthetic that the show contains. This year, creators are engaging with Gilmore Girls by creating videos featuring their favourite aesthetic things about Fall set to lines from the show. Some videos also showcase how the creators get prepared for Fall.

Brands can utilise this trend to showcase their product lines that can be used for the Fall season, encouraging users to purchase their products to make their Fall complete.

Halloween nails

Creating the perfect set of spooky, scary nails is at the forefront of TikTok user’s minds this year.

Halloween nails have become one of the biggest Halloween Trends this year, with the hashtag #Halloweennails having 1.0B views and new videos being uploaded every day.

To jump in on the fun, brands should focus on using their own products to create Halloween nail art, nail designs that match with Halloween costumes, and other content that highlights nail products. Brands could also partner with influencers in the nail space to design a set of nails that put a Halloween twist on the brands image; for example, turning the brand’s mascot into a zombie or bloodying the brand logo.

Spooky charcuterie boards

Finally, Halloween 2023 has its sights set on being the tastiest one yet.

TikTok has an abundance of Halloween food-themed videos at present. In particular, videos showcasing Halloween-themed charcuterie boards are becoming increasingly popular. In this trend, a creator will build a charcuterie board filled with ghost shaped crackers, pumpkin flavoured dips and other spooky food items.

Brands looking to get involved with this trend should focus on using their products to build spooky charcuterie boards. This trend also lends itself to showcasing office culture; your team can build a board together and enjoy it as an office activity.
