SP Diaries #2: Annie Klar, Junior Digital Content Writer

We may have our incredible accounts team keeping an eye on our client’s branding, but someone has to man our own.

That’s where we come in!

As the content team, we’re responsible for keeping SP’s image spick and span – wherever it ends up on the internet.

To gain a better understanding of the content team and our work, we sat down with Annie Klar, a Junior Digital Content Writer here at Socially Powerful.

Let’s hear what she had to say about entering the industry and what she has learnt along the way.

When did you start working at SP?

I began working at SP in September of 2023.

What is your role?

My role is a Junior Digital Content Writer.

What does that entail?

My role covers both digital written content and social media content creation. So, I write blogs for the website, create content for LinkedIn, film and produce TikTok videos and more. Essentially, anything that contributes to the outward face of the brand I usually help out a bit with.

What does an average week look like for you?

I typically begin the week with a list of blogs and other written content such as scripts that must be done by the end of the week. Sprinkled in there will be daily TikTok videos to film, content for Instagram and creating visual assets for our social media accounts.

Why did you choose SP/ want to work for them?

I chose SP because I was curious to see the different industries my degree would be relevant in. I studied Political Science, so after finishing university I was a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of industries open to me. SP has been a great way to learn more about the marketing industry whilst still staying true to my writing roots.

What do you like about working at SP?

I love the variety of my job. I’m someone who gets bored easily, so being able to switch between a bunch of different tasks each day is really exciting for me. I love that I am able to be really creative at work as well; I don’t typically feel pigeon holed. There is a lot of room for innovation and switching things up.

What do you like about working within this industry?

I like how detail oriented the industry is. Each little slide, Instagram Reel and LinkedIn post have so many revolving parts. I really enjoy being able to dedicate time to small details; it’s these little things that really create a sense of professionalism in our work.

Why did you choose this industry to get into?

As I mentioned, I was quite dumbstruck by the number of options for a career after I left university. I thought marketing would be a great way to work on my communication skills whilst also flexing my creative side. Luckily, I was right!

What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learned across your career so far?

I still have a lot to learn, but I think the most valuable piece thus far is how to be concise and engaging. I’m still working at this every day, but learning how to get across your point in a punchy way is an amazingly useful skill.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve overcome at SP?

So far the biggest challenge I have overcome is time management. It can be difficult to switch from a university environment, wherein you might receive weeks at a time to finish a piece of writing, to an office where you might only have a day. Learning how to complete my work efficiently, and understanding when it is time to put something down and move on, has been challenging for me.

How has your career path/vision changed over the years?

My career path/vision is constantly changing day by day. Working at SP has been great in this way, as I always feel like I’m learning applicable skills. No matter where I will end up, I feel that SP has prepared me in some way or another.

What advice would you give to someone starting out in your role?

I received this piece of advice on my first day at SP and it’s the best I have got yet; take time for yourself. An office environment can get pretty hectic, so making sure that you take even five minutes for yourself per day is essential. It can be incredibly difficult to tear yourself away from a task, but in actuality taking time for yourself makes you a better worker.
