The Rise of Luxury Vintage Pop-ups by Katie Gould

If ‘pre-loved’ is your love language, keep reading…

Our resident fashion expert and Associate Business Director, Katie Gould, has noticed some major changes in the world of vintage luxury. Here’s what she had to say.

For years, second-hand luxury was the playground of independent resellers, Depop hustlers, and vintage pursuits. But recently the rules have begun to change with thrifting is going mainstream.

Real World Examples

We only have to turn our attention to London – a city that would win a gold medal if thrifting was ever made an Olympic sport – to see these changes happening in real time. Vogue (yes, that Vogue) recently threw its hat into the resale ring with its very own vintage fashion sale. In true Vogue style, the event was meticulously curated, styled-to-the-nines, and hosted by UK it-girl, Jorja Smith; so much more than a jumble sale with good lighting.

A few weeks before, Vinted debuted its first-ever physical pop-up in London. Opening the doors to the House of Vinted at The Adria in South Kensington on March 22nd, curated wardrobes from the likes of Susie Lau and Victoria Magrath were arranged according to different themes; think ‘Art Deco Déjà Vu’ and ‘Cottagecore Comeback’. Visitors were also able to partake in various workshops, such as leather embossing, and chat to a professional stylist for some bespoke fashion-y tips and tricks.

The Future of Second-Hand Luxury Pop-Ups

Coincidence? Hardly. While thrifting isn’t new, luxury’s embrace of resale pop-ups is a fresh twist.

Second-hand luxury pop-ups aren’t just about shopping. They’re cultural and emotional experiences that allow consumers to find pieces with a story. We’ve already seen beauty pop ups become the norm, so it feels natural for fashion to follow suit.

When done right, a curated, second-hand luxury pop-up doesn’t feel like rifling through someone’s old clothes. It feels like you’ve stumbled across a secret, lost archive where everything has a past and you get to write its future. How cinematic and romantic. Very on-brand for the luxury world.

Finally, greenwashing fatigue is real. The buzzwords surrounding sustainability don’t mean much when fashion brands are pumping out micro-trends every other week. Second-hand luxury offers a guilt-free way to shop.

Vogue’s move signals a growing fashion media-resale synergy. Could more publishers follow, curating second-hand luxury pop-ups that reflect their brand? Maybe a Harper’s Bazaar x Vintage Designer Pop-Up? It’s only a matter of time before luxury labels reclaim the resale narrative themselves.

What do you think? Would you attend a second-hand luxury pop-up? And which brand house do you think will be the first to bite?
