The Top 10 Olympic coldest moments are tough, with so many notable moments coming from the games, but you know what? There’s been some absolute ice in the veins of some of these athletes. You can’t win gold without having a memorable photo to show for it, it’s like filling your water to the brim without it overflowing, you just need to keep those moments etched in history forever. Oh, and the Olympic moments too. On your marks, set, let’s go!
USWNT defeats Brazil 1-0 for the first time since 2012
Women’s football has been on the rise in the past two years, with more football fans flocking to the stadiums than ever before! Rightly so, because this was a massive occasion when it comes to notable Olympic moments, with Mallory Swanson rifling the ball in the back of the net in the 57th minute with a glorious assist by Korbin Albert.
Sha’Carri and the Team USA queens win Gold in the 4×100 relay
Being behind Germany and Team GB in the anchor leg, especially with rain pouring down, and ending up in front of the pack is no easy feat, but for Sha’Carri it was a breeze. Herself, Melissa Jefferson, Twanisha Terry and Gabby Thomas outshone the competition to make another icy addition to the top 10 Olympic moments.
Three countries and the Refugee Olympic Team win medals
When we talk about sizable moments, we think of sizable countries. But only sometimes. In fact, it was Cabo Verde’s David de Pina’s first-ever bronze medal in boxing, which was one of the biggest Olympic moments. Also, Dominica winning gold in the triple jump and St Lucia’s Julien Alfred beating Sha’Carri Richardson in the 100m sprint final were not on our 2024 bingo card, but we’re here for the history!

Who said romance is dead? Not Huang and Liu!
Yep, you guessed it! Two athletes got engaged, with Liu Yuchen bowing down on one knee to propose immediately after Huang Yaqiong won gold in the Badminton mixed doubles. It came as a big surprise to her as she wasn’t expecting it, she told the press. This has to be one of the sweetest Olympic moments ever – we might cry.
@eurosport A memory to last a lifetime 🥺 Huang Yaqiong won Olympic gold and shortly after, Liu Yuchen proposed to her 💍 #paris2024 #olympics
Noah’s in his victory era
We knew it was coming, despite the countless doubts, the impressive training videos of other athletes, it was always going to be the age-old rivalry of USA vs Jamaica. Olympic moments don’t get sweeter than Noah Lyles becoming the first American since Justin Gatlin in 2004 to win gold, especially when you factor in that Lyles beat Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson by five thousandths of a second!
Novak wins gold for the first time in his over-two-decade career
Novak Djokovic, currently ranked number 2 in the world, has finally won a gold in the Olympics, something which has so far eluded him. Crazy, right? He lost to Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, but beat him at the Olympics, a real shapeshifter when it comes to Olympic moments. The native Serbian dropped to his knees in tears after the match point and hugged his family in the crowds, a real sight for champions to behold.
Yusuf, the shooter to remember
If you haven’t seen it, Yusuf Dikec of Turkiye is one of the straightest shooters you’ll ever see. His unique, relaxed pose earned him the spotlight and the silver medal, his first one at the age of 51. His pose was so famous that even other athletes such as Armand Duplantis and Nina Kennedy were celebrating with it. One of the most iconic Olympic moments is now called Doing the Dikec!
Ireland finally wins a medal since 1996!
Talk about a grand entrance! Daniel Wiffen is the man who brought home the bacon by winning the men’s 800m freestyle in swimming, the country’s first ever medal in any men’s event! Mona McSharry also made sure Ireland’s notorious Olympic moments weren’t done there, as she took home bronze in the women’s 100m breaststroke, the first since 1996. Get these guys a Guinness!
I think we found God… his name is Gabriel Medina
This was one of those “proof or it didn’t happen” best Olympic moments, and boy did Jerome Brouillet deliver on that! His perfectly timed snapshot of Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina as he rose triumphantly above a serious wave makes him look like God. Seriously, it’s insane. Hands down one of the coolest Olympic moments to exist!
And finally… you really thought he wouldn’t make the cut?
SNOOP DOGG!! The host of the games, the legend himself, we don’t need to give one iconic moment because Snoop IS the moment. From realising that the torch wasn’t a giant metal joint, to crip walking live on TV, to opening the breakdancing Olympics and swimming with Michael Phelps, the man is ticking off side quests left, right and centre! He will go down as one of the most memorable Olympic hosts in history.
So there you have it, our top 10 coldest moments from the Olympics this year. What a year, full of record-breaking events, smiles, tears, proposals, you name it… France had it! Until 2028, where more magic awaits.
