Socially Powerful interviewed the internet’s favorite six-sibling band @sm6band to discuss their journey in music, finding their niche, and using social media to grow their fanbase. They stumbled into the world of content creation and developed a niche simply by being a band made up of siblings because they consider music a lifelong passion. Their main goal is to have fun while promoting their music on TikTok. SM6 believes influencer marketing is a new standard for reaching a larger audience and is excited to continue growing their global fanbase while staying true to their creative journey.

We caught up with the internet’s favourite six sibling band, @SM6, to talk all things finding your niche, promotion on social media, and growing an international fanbase! Read on to discover how SM6 have used the power of social media to achieve their dreams!

Where does your love for music stem from?

In every way, music has always been a part of our lives. We’ve had a piano in our living room for as long as we can remember. That was our gateway into exploring other instruments and music styles.

How does the increased demand for more niche content creators impact the performance of your content? Does being a band made up of siblings help?

We had no idea what we were doing when we started social media and we honestly still don’t. We think niches are important because audiences know what to expect when on a content creators page. Looking back, unknowingly we had a niche already being six siblings that are in a band.

What is your main goal for creating content?

Our goal is to just have fun and not take things too seriously… also with a little shameless self promo for our music.

Which platforms do you predominantly use? Which do you prefer for posting, and for community building? 

Mainly we use TikTok. For us, Instagram is great for building connections and a community.

How does community engagement vary on your chosen platforms?

It varies. It’s literally a rollercoaster. I think a lot of people would agree that you can never predict what’s gonna do well. So you just have to keep pushing out the content that you love and hope something sticks. Just go with the flow.

What is your favourite type of content to create, and which works best for your audience? Is there a juxtaposition? 

Our favorite content to create would be the original skits/challenges we create that make us laugh. And usually these types of videos resonate with our audience but sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes our videos are a little weird.

In your own words and experience, how would you define “influencer marketing”?

It’s definitely the new standard.

Why do you think influencer marketing is so powerful in today’s society?

Everything is on social media these days. Even for us- bands used to hang flyers to get people to go to their shows and listen to their music. Now, we can just post to our socials and reach a larger audience. Thankful!

Do you have experience working with brands? How do you decide which brands you would like to work with?

Yeah! We’ve worked with plenty of brands. There’s a lot of us with a lot of different interests but usually we can tell right away if it’s a “yes” or a “pass”.

How do you foresee the influencer marketing space changing within your niche in the next 12 months?

One thing we learned is that social media is unpredictable. But we don’t think anything is gonna change. Our niche is set and the world for influencer marketing has found its place.

Based on your experience, what would you advocate to change about the industry you’re in?

We’d love to see more people help out unrepresented artists. There’s so many people that are out to just help themselves. It’d be great if there was more unity. We all want to create some great music from our souls and have it be heard.

How do you balance your online and offline lives?

We’re pretty active on social media during the day but in the morning and night we like to disconnect, power off phones and just unwind and be.

Where do you see yourselves in the next 5 years?

Doing what we’re doing now! Touring, writing and recording music and acting. We want to grow our community worldwide!

What is a piece of advice you would give to your younger selves when starting this musical journey?

Trust your gut and trust the process.
