As I woke up from my Bank Holiday here in the UK, I went to my usual morning ritual of picking up my phone and going through the social networks one by one. I wanted to see the updates and see what was going on with the world....pretty standard stuff...UNTIL I opened up Instagram.
For the last few months, there has been tremendous chatter across social media about Instagram making changes to their algorithm, where you see the content you care about most first. When it was first heard of, the world erupted and said NOOOO please don't do that. Well, it seems as if Instagram are slowly leaking the feature in. I logged on this morning to be greeted by a 12 hour old post, (yes I had a long sleep last night) from someone, who's content I've never really interacted with, I wasn't best pleased!
As I scrolled down further, it became apparent that the people I follow hadn't all decided to leave the app, but Instagram had fiddled with their algorithm and my feed was destined to never be the same again. As I scrolled and scrolled, the people's content I wanted to see wasn't there....I had to do the old school method of physically typing their name in and searching for them. First impressions are - NOT HAPPY!
Not so long ago, Instagram changed their logo - people seem to have moved on from this, but the Timeline feature, I have a feeling it might take some time for people to adjust to. Surely there needs to be some tweaking on the algorithm to actually show content, people want to see, if it's to stay. Let's see what happens in the coming weeks.
What are your thoughts?!
